The New Orleans Hornets have acquired power forward Carl Landry from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for reserve wing Marcus Thornton and cash considerations.
The Breakdown
New Orleans Hornets: The Hornets badly needed front court depth and this trade gives them a strong back up to David West. Landry will have basically the same role he's had his entire career, coming off the bench and scoring. His value is unlikely to change with the move to New Orleans.
Sacramento Kings: The little used Thornton could get an opportunity to play regular minutes in Sacramento. The Kings don't have any proven guards on their bench, so it would not shock us if Thornton made a big splash. With Tyreke Evans expected to miss significant time with a foot injury, Thornton may be worth consideration in standard formats. We'll keep an eye on him over the next week to see where he fits into Sacramento's plans.
Moving Landry also clears up the logjam up front and boosts the values of Jason Thompson and Samuel Dalembert. Both players should see more minutes, giving them an opportunity to up their numbers. They're worth picking up in deep leagues.
