NBA sources are reporting that the Cleveland Cavaliers will acquire Baron Davis and a first-round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.
The Breakdown
Cleveland Cavaliers: Cleveland is building for the future and likely made this deal more for the draft pick than for Davis. It's unclear whether Davis will take over the starting point guard duties with Ramon Sessions playing so well of late. Additionally, we've seen that Davis can play very poorly when he's not motivated. A move to the worst team in the league and away from his hometown could certainly take away any motivation he had. It's a shame because Davis was starting to come to life playing alongside Blake Griffin. Davis owners should keep an eye on him over the next week and see where he falls into Cleveland's rotation. He may be worth dropping if he doesn't carve out a significant role with his new team.
Los Angeles Clippers: The Clippers get themselves a younger point guard who's made the All-Star team in Mo Williams. As it did with Davis, we feel Williams will be reinvigorated playing with Griffin. Mo is a must add in any leagues where he's available.
Jamario Moon, though, may benefit the most from the deal. The Clippers were looking for more depth at small forward, so Moon should immediately move into the rotation and there's a possibility he could take over starting duties. He's a player we're adding in deep leagues and keeping a close eye on in standard formats.
