Jennifer Lopez steals the show with her famous derrière on a star-studded American Idol

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Stealing the show: Jennifer Lopez, left, dances as Marc Anthony performs at the American Idol finale

The night belonged to Scotty McCreey, but even his vote-winning performance couldn't compete with the charms of Jennifer Lopez.

With her husband Marc Anthony performing, the American Idol judge took the role of backing dancer, shaking her body in a revealing white flounced mini dress.

As she twisted and turned around her grinning husband, Jennifer showed off her famous behind in a pair of fishnets.

She then shook her booty at the camera for a full 15 seconds while Anthony looked on in adoration.

The couple, who have been married seven years, shared a passionate kiss on stage afterwards.

Anthony then whispered something into his wife's ear and she smiled broadly before putting her hand over his mouth to keep him quiet.

Jennifer, 40, was just one of many celebrities to take advantage of the millions watching to promote their latest offering.

Beyoncé joined the six female finalists for a high-octave performance of her new single Run The World (Girls).

The grandest bid for attention came from Broadway's troubled Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, with composers Bono and The Edge performing with the musical's star, Reeve Carney.

Spider-Man was lowered down on a rope in front Lopez as she sat on the judge's panel.

Lady Gaga, whose new album Born this Way is out this week, was another performer.

Rocking out: Judge Steven Tyler finally performed on the show, singing Aerosmith's Dream On

Wearing studded hotpants, boots and bra the 25-year-old writhed with the dancer on a raised platform before kissing him on the lips and embracing.

The pair then held hands and jumped off the top of a large faux-cliff structure in a theatrical display of joint suicide.

Other high-wattage stars who took to the stage at the Nokia Theatre included Tony Bennett and Tom Jones.

Earlier the stars had joined the contestants on the red carpet.

In her gold jumpsuit, embellished with beads, Jennifer had evidently planned to stand out from the crowd.

Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart and Naima Adedapo all arrived in white ahead of their joint performance, but showed their own sense of style in their clinging outfits.

Pia was initially one of the favourites to win the show, and her premature departure led to threats by fans to boycott the series.

Other favourites were Jacob Lusk and rocker James Durbin.

Joining the contestants were a clutch of celebrities, including country music stars Carrie Underwood and Tim McGraw.
